MGM Resorts International Faces Cybersecurity Issues Impacting Operations

MGM Resorts International, based in Las Vegas, Nevada, has officially confirmed that it fell victim to a recent cyberattack, shedding light on the impact of the incident on its operations. The company experienced a computer system outage on Monday, which affected its headquarters, properties, and websites.

An MGM spokesperson acknowledged the cybersecurity issue and outlined the steps taken in response, stating, “Promptly after detecting the issue, we began an investigation with assistance from leading external cybersecurity experts. We also notified law enforcement and are taking steps to protect our systems and data, including shutting down certain systems. Our investigation is ongoing, and we are working diligently to resolve the matter.”

The company emphasized its commitment to securing its business operations and taking additional measures as deemed appropriate.

Reports from Monday indicated that the computer systems at all MGM Resorts properties, including the renowned Bellagio Las Vegas, experienced outages, prompting a shift to manual operations. The disruption also affected credit card machines at the properties.

Additionally, when attempting to access the mgmresorts.com website, visitors were greeted with a message stating that the site was unavailable, accompanied by an apology and contact information for reservations, member services, and concierge services. MGM Resorts also addressed the technical issues via its social media channels.

MGM Resorts International, a major player in the hospitality and entertainment industry, manages 19 resorts worldwide, boasting over 40,000 rooms. Its portfolio includes renowned properties such as the MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Luxor, and New York-New York in Las Vegas, as well as the Borgata in Atlantic City, New Jersey, among others.

As the investigation into the cyberattack continues, MGM Resorts International, like many organizations facing such incidents, is working diligently to mitigate the impact on its operations and secure its digital infrastructure.
