Iconic Hollywood Star’s Final Resting Place Up for Grabs at $2 Million

In the heart of Los Angeles lies a cemetery that holds the remains of some of the most celebrated stars in Hollywood history. Among them is the iconic Marilyn Monroe, whose fame has transcended generations. Now, an opportunity has arisen for one lucky individual to spend eternity in the presence of this legendary actress. A burial crypt located near Marilyn Monroe’s final resting place is up for sale, and it comes with a staggering price tag of $2 million.

The crypt, which belonged to the Tony Award-winning composer Jerry Herman, was originally purchased in 1997 for a mere $75,000. Over the years, it has become an enticing prospect for fans of classic Hollywood who wish to be in the company of their beloved idols even after death. The cemetery, Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park, is a beautiful and private setting that attracts admirers from all over the world.

Hollywood real estate agent Jane Dorian, who is also the goddaughter of Jerry Herman, describes the location as a piece of Hollywood history. She emphasizes that being laid to rest near Marilyn Monroe is a unique opportunity to forever be connected to the glamour and allure of the golden age of cinema.

Jerry Herman’s admiration for Marilyn Monroe was well-known, and he had initially chosen this crypt to be his final resting place. However, in later years, he changed his mind and expressed a desire to be buried next to his mother in New Jersey. Before his passing, he gave his blessing to put the crypt up for sale.

Despite the allure of spending eternity near such an iconic figure, the crypt has yet to find a buyer. Dorian attributes this to the financial uncertainties brought about by the coronavirus pandemic. Nevertheless, she remains optimistic that the right person will recognize the value of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

The cemetery already boasts a star-studded lineup, with the likes of Farrah Fawcett, Kirk Douglas, Natalie Wood, and others laid to rest within its grounds. Playboy publisher Hugh Hefner also secured a spot next to Marilyn Monroe in 2017, emphasizing the irresistibility of being laid to rest next to the iconic actress.

Hefner’s choice was not the only unconventional burial plan concerning Marilyn Monroe. Richard Poncher, a local entrepreneur, purchased the crypt above Monroe from her ex-husband Joe DiMaggio after their divorce. Allegedly, Poncher requested to be buried face down above Monroe, a wish that was fulfilled upon his death in 1986.

The crypt gained significant attention in 2009 when Poncher’s widow put it up for auction on eBay. The starting bid was set at $500,000, and it eventually reached an astounding $4.6 million. However, the deal fell through, and the crypt remained Poncher’s final resting place until his passing.

While $2 million may seem like an exorbitant amount for a burial spot, Los Angeles cemetery broker Baron Chu explains that cemetery prices in large coastal cities can be considerably higher than the national average. Despite the price tag, Dorian believes that the opportunity to rest alongside the stars of Hollywood is a worthy investment in celebrating life and human greatness.

In the end, the crypt awaits a buyer who appreciates the historical significance and the allure of spending eternity in the presence of one of the most enduring Hollywood stars. For those with a passion for classic cinema and a deep admiration for Marilyn Monroe, this unique opportunity may be too sweet to pass up.

H2: A Lasting Tribute to Hollywood’s Legends

The cemetery’s allure lies not only in its serene beauty but also in the eternal celebration of the wonderful qualities that make us human. To be buried alongside the stars of yesteryear is to be forever connected to the magic of the silver screen, where beauty, vulnerability, and humor continue to captivate audiences worldwide. While death may be an inevitable part of life, this final resting place offers a chance to leave a lasting tribute to the unforgettable icons of Hollywood’s golden era.
