Groundbreaking Collaborations Emerge at Vietnam-U.S. Tech Summit

In a remarkable confluence of tech and innovation, high-ranking executives from leading U.S. and Vietnamese firms in the semiconductor, technology, and aviation sectors convened in Hanoi on Monday. This momentous meeting was held in conjunction with U.S. President Biden’s visit to the Vietnamese capital, and it promises to reshape the landscape of global business and technology.

Representatives from industry giants like Google, Intel, Amkor, Marvell, GlobalFoundries, and Boeing, alongside several esteemed Vietnamese companies, gathered at the Vietnam-U.S. Innovation & Investment Summit. Their shared objective? To forge powerful business partnerships and usher in a new era of Artificial Intelligence-driven cooperation.

Vietnamese participants included VinFast, an electric car manufacturer; Vietnam Airlines, the national flag carrier; FPT, a prominent tech firm; MoMo, an e-wallet company; and VNG, a rising internet firm that filed for a U.S. initial public offering in August.

A Pioneering Commitment to Advancement

This summit highlighted the United States’ dedicated efforts to enhance Vietnam’s global significance, especially in the realm of chip manufacturing. Simultaneously, it underscores America’s determination to fortify its regional influence in the midst of escalating tensions with China.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Vietnam’s investment minister, Nguyen Chi Dzung, jointly presided over this landmark gathering. Following this assembly, President Biden engaged in discussions with Vietnam Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, solidifying the commitment to fostering innovation and mutual prosperity.

The White House made significant announcements regarding chip-related investments by U.S. corporations in Vietnam. These announcements included Marvell and Synopsys’ plans to establish chip design centers in Vietnam, reinforcing the nation’s burgeoning role in cutting-edge technology.

Microsoft and Trusting Social unveiled an unprecedented partnership aimed at creating a “generative AI-based solution tailored for Vietnam and emerging markets.” This innovative endeavor is poised to transform industries and push the boundaries of AI applications.

Nvidia, a global tech powerhouse, also revealed strategic collaborations with Vietnamese firms FPT, Viettel, and Vingroup, the parent company of VinFast. Their ambitious goal? To usher in AI deployment across cloud computing, automotive, and healthcare sectors in Vietnam.

Revolutionizing Small and Medium Enterprises

Meta Platforms and the Vietnam National Innovation Center jointly announced an inspiring initiative. Their program is designed to “promote digital transformation among small and medium enterprises,” ensuring that businesses of all sizes can harness the power of technology to thrive in the digital age.

Amkor Technology, headquartered in Tempe, Arizona, is set to make a profound impact in Vietnam. The company plans to construct a state-of-the-art $1.6 billion factory in Bac Ninh Province, adjacent to Hanoi. This facility, scheduled to commence operations in October, will specialize in assembling, packaging, and testing semiconductor chips. This investment surpasses Intel’s $1.5 billion chip assembly plant in the southern region of Vietnam, marking a significant milestone for the industry.

Aviation and Energy Collaboration

Vietnam Airlines is embarking on an ambitious journey, with plans to acquire 50 Boeing 737 Max jets valued at nearly $8 billion. This substantial agreement is poised to bolster U.S. manufacturing jobs and support Vietnam’s burgeoning travel and tourism industry as it aspires to become a prominent aviation hub. More than 33,000 direct and indirect jobs across the United States will be positively impacted by this visionary deal.

Additionally, U.S. company Honeywell is set to collaborate with a Vietnamese partner to initiate a groundbreaking pilot project. Their mission is to establish Vietnam’s inaugural battery energy storage system, an essential step towards sustainable energy solutions.
